After a tiny American Airlines aircraft, Flight 5342 from Wichita, crashed with a military helicopter close to Reagan National Airport, authorities have verified that a multi-agency search and rescue effort is currently in progress on the Potomac River.

What we know: Multiple calls about a collision were received by the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department at around 8:53 AM. Search and rescue operations are actively carried out by the MPD, D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services, and other partner agencies. The MPD chopper is helping to coordinate the response even though it was not a part of the collision. According to law enforcement, all flights and landings at DCA have been suspended. * "I have heard that a plane from Kansas has crashed at DCA," U.S. Senator Jerry Moran posted an update on X.
