Tragically, Rory Callum Sykes, an Australian former child actor, lost his family's Malibu mansion to the flames in Los Angeles. The 32-year-old Sykes rose to popularity after making an appearance in the British television series *Kiddy Capers* in 1998. He then became a motivational speaker on living with impairments, according to a social media post made by his mother, Shelley Sykes. According to reports, Shelley Sykes tried her hardest to save her son, but he died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
I share with great sadness the news that my beautiful son @Rorysykes died yesterday in the Malibu fires," she posted in an emotional message on X (previously Twitter). I am completely devastated.
She characterized him as a "British-born Australian living in the U.S., a wonderful son, a gift born on July 29, 1992, on my and his grandmother's birthday."
Shelley claims that Rory, who had cerebral palsy from birth, had been residing in a tiny cabin on the family's 17-acre Mount Malibu TV studio property. She found that the water supply had been switched off when she tried to use it to put out the fire. * "The water was off, so I was unable to hose down the ash on his roof. She revealed that even fifty courageous firefighters were without water for the entire day. The cabin was demolished when Shelley returned from her run to call the local fire brigade for assistance. She recounted the terrible incidents to Australia's *10 News First*:"'Mom, leave me,' he [Rory] said, but no mother can abandon her kid. I was unable to move or lift him because I had a broken arm.
Our thoughts are with Rory Sykes' family at this tragic time," said Penny Wong, Australia's foreign minister, in expressing sympathy to the Sykes family during this trying time. While Los Angeles officials investigate the cause of his death, we remain in contact with them. In addition to offering consular support, DFAT maintains regular communication with his family.
