Shooting at Antioch High School in Nashville: A 17-year-old student fired multiple shots in the school cafeteria with a pistol at 11:09 a.m.

A 17-year-old student discharged several bullets with a pistol in the school cafeteria around 11:09 a.m., according to Metro Nashville Police spokesperson Don Aaron during a press conference.

According to the police spokesperson, Antioch High School in Nashville was the scene of a shooting Wednesday morning that left one student dead and another injured. The gunman, a man, shot himself.

"Antioch High School is on lockdown due to a shooting inside the school building," the school district said in a statement shortly after the event. There are Metro Police present. The person who carried out the shooting is no longer a threat. As soon as feasible, we will bring the students together in the auditorium and educate them about reunification.

The Antioch High School website states that roughly 2,000 pupils in classes 9 through 12 can be accommodated there. It is situated roughly ten miles southeast of Nashville's downtown in the Antioch area.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Tennessee Homeland Security, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have all acknowledged their participation in the response.

After shooting three 9-year-old children and three adults at a Nashville private Christian elementary school in March 2023, a former student of The Covenant School was shot and killed by responding police.
