Delhi's Former Protests: A Deep Dive into Their Impact and Legacy"

While they wait for negotiations with the government, the protesting farmers have set up camp on the Noida-Delhi expressway.

Farmers camped at the Dalit Prerna Sthal on the Noida-Delhi expressway on Monday after the police prevented them from traveling to Delhi. Senior government officials promised to hold talks with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary, according to farmers' union representatives. The farmers have therefore made the decision to keep protesting until the government complies with their requests.

"The Yogi Adityanath government has been ignoring farmers' rights for the past two decades, failing to revise circle rates and refusing to provide adequate compensation," the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) told news agency PTI. They stated, "If the Uttar Pradesh government does not protect the land rights of farmers, the SKM in Uttar Pradesh will intensify the movement by ensuring widespread unity among project-affected farmers across the state.

What requests do the farmers have?

Farmers are organizing against the absence of execution of the Land Acquisition Act of 2013, stagnant land valuation rates since 2017, and insufficient compensation. They are also calling for justice for the victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri riots in 2021, a pension plan for farmers and agricultural workers, and legal guarantees for the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
